Southern Rail is the sister restaurant to Beckett's Table, created by Chef Justin Beckett and his team. A nostalgic gastronomical journey inspired by the "American classics with a Southern twist", Southern Rail delivers regional influences stretching from the coastal Carolinas of "low-country" cooking through the soulful belt of the Gulf Coast. A sense of place is unveiled by the famous New Orleans cuisine so driven by Cajun and Creole cultures. The bounty of slow-smoke BBQ of south Texas and Southwest inspired cuisine all find a home on our menus.
An American wine and beverage program is expressed in our hand crafted offerings, with a strong focus on local Arizona wines, craft beers, and boutique spirits as our hallmarks. We ask our guests to support local.
In the Fall of 2010 Chef Justin & Michelle Beckett with their long-time friends Scott & Katie Stephens, embarked on a collective vision to create an upscale casual restaurant with all the trappings of simple comfort and relaxed elegance; our flagship restaurant, Beckett’s Table was born.
A new class of American eatery, Beckett’s Table is chef driven food, an awarded wine list, and exemplary service. With an emerging Phoenix culinary scene the owners were tempted with an offer to participate in the revitalization project as a cornerstone for Central Phoenix renewal. The Newton was raised from the iconic Beef Eaters building, located along the Metro Valley Light Rail (between Central and 7th Avenue stations). Together Southern Rail with our neighbors Changing Hands Bookstore, First Draft Bookbar, and Southwest Gardner; The Newton is an 18,000 Sq. Ft. destination to gather, shop, dine, and read.
Our hospitable home at Southern Rail seats 125 guests inside; included are 19 seats at our indoor/outdoor bar, and 18 seats at our signature community table. The space is casual, warm, rustic, and nostalgic; consisting distressed concrete floors, reclaimed woods, whimsical textiles, while showcasing the original Beef Eaters chandeliers and re-purposed leather booths. When the weather is perfect (nearly 8 months a year); our two patios are complete with misters, ceiling fans, heaters, TV, a fireplace, a 12 seat drink-rail, all inclusive to accommodate another 100 guests.
